While we do not yet have student achievement results, charter schools in New York City have achieved remarkable success of late.
Test Results
In June 2008, New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein announced test scores that demonstrate that New York City public school students who attend charter schools outperform their peers at other public schools in districts with charter schools across the city. The graph below shows that on state ELA tests, 67% of students attending charter schools scored proficient or higher, whereas at district public schools that number was 54%. On state math tests, 85% of students attending charter school scored proficient or higher, whereas as district public schools that number was 71%. In addition, students in charter schools outperformed students in the state of New York by 4 percent.
