Test Results
This past year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) responded to studies indicating that New York's benchmarks for proficiency in language and math skills were artificially low by changing the way it scores its annual assessments. Coney Island Prep enthusiastically supports these changes, and we believe they will better serve New Yorkers in the long run. One immediate result was a twenty-five percent decrease in the number of students deemed proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. Still, we are incredibly happy to report that CI Prep's scholars outperformed every other fifth grade class in Coney Island.

Our scholars also performed well when compared to those in school districts in suburbs throughout the state. In fact, on the mathematics test, we had a higher percentage of scholars performing at Level 4--the highest level, which is termed "Exceeds Proficiency Standards"--than fifth graders in Scarsdale.
